It has unfortunately been a while since I have been able to update events at Whitrope. October saw the end of the running season for another year, one where we have been able to provide a service on every day advertised.
We did have a visit from our patron Lord David Steele and members of his family. He was very impressed with all he saw and thoroughly enjoyed his visit. He hopes to be able to return soon.
We have had a very kind donation of a set of level crossing gates. The gates were donated by John Murray and we are extremely grateful. The gates were delivered to Whitrope by Buccleuch Estates. The gates are from Gilnockie on the Langholm branch. They are therefore an important piece of Waverley heritage and a great addition to our materials collection.
Work has continued on the pointwork at the cross-over and the access point to the stock siding is now connected up to a single throw point lever. This will make shunting operations much easier for the operating staff.
Finally the old toilet shed has been on the move and is currently located in the compound awaiting a new lease of life in the New Year.
