Winter Arrives Early At Whitrope

We’ve had contractors in again at Whitrope: this time they’ve been extending (and completing) the oversail course down the platform ramp, as well as tidying up some issues with the existing blockwork on the ramp wall itself. The oversail course has been quite a saga, involving transporting circa 200 heavy concrete blocks up from “Middle England” over a three year period. We are now preparing ourselves for the sequel, the “coper course”, which should also provide us with plenty of entertainment…..

This work was finished in the nick of time, for no sooner had the cement set that the full force of winter descended upon the Southern Uplands. Snow so early in the season doesn’t bode well, and we fear a repeat of last winter when almost all work on site ground to a halt for around three months. It certainly gives plenty of ammunition for the global warming sceptics, but we’ll leave that debate for others!
